After visiting Kingston earlier today, I decided to pop into the Saatchi gallery to see if they still had Maurizio Anzeri's work displayed there. I visited the gallery just under 2 years ago and saw two pieces of his work, one of them being 'Round Medium'.
For some reason, I always imagined the prints to be bigger (as most of them are no bigger than A4). Maybe it's because the images of them on the internet appear to be huge. Regardless, the designs are beautifully thought out, the fine threads sewn in precisely to the aged prints.
What appeals to me the most about Anzeri's work is the way he changes the identity of the person in the photograph completely. He rearranges their appearance by using brightly coloured thread and giving them a much more sinister demeanour.
This is an aspect that I hope to interpret into my project, however instead of doing this with photos I'd do it with space. With the the use of thread, I could change the appearance of the space, changing the entire atmosphere it has on the viewer and setting up a whole new environment.
