String Art (on Scraps of Wood)
As I felt I was ready to move on from the research stage of my project, I started to produce practical work slightly more early than planned! This is a development of the thread wall structures that I had created in my previous project Platform. However for this I created a series of experiments, by threading on scraps of wood and producing more repetitive/geometric designs. This can also be seen as an interpretation of Anzeri, Kardinal and DiCioccio's work. I've adapted their method of working however instead of sewing through photographs and books, I'm doing it on wood.
I think these experimental pieces look great as a series. The brightness of the wool really stands out against the old grain of the wood and they are quite interesting sculptures to look at. I feel that I could only develop the model below into a more spatial solution as I have pinned the thread into a 3D structure... nevertheless, I feel that these initial experiments are a great way to start off my project!
